gastech LPG conversions for petrol vehicles : the lpg conversion process

The conversion to dual fuel leaves the petrol system of the vehicle intact. An additional, separate fuel system is added that uses LPG. Gastech use what are considered to be the best components available, and offer a range of tank installation options to suit your specific vehicles requirements. The main components of a Gastech LPG conversion are listed below. We are happy to explain the whole conversion process and the role of each component in more detail should you require.

SWITCH
The Switch is fitted inside the vehicle cabin, and although Gastech’s LPG Systems are fully automated, this offers the driver the ability to manually change from LPG to petrol use, or vice versa.

LPG TANK
The LPG tank is installed in the most suitable place to suit your vehicle. Our experience is second to none and we will advise on the recommended tank option.

Incorporated in the LPG tank assemblies are:

Float complete with a one-way shut-off safety valve, connected to the inlet pipe from the LPG filler;

Over-pressure relief valve, controlling the release of pressure in a safe and regulated manner in the case of overfill or fire;

Gauge sender, utilising float information to give tank level reading; and Lock-off safety valve, located on the outlet feed to the engine, which is electrically operated.

LPG FILLER
The LPG filler is of the recommended recessed bayonet type, and incorporates a one-way shut-off safety valve.

VAPORISER
The Vaporiser is heated by engine coolant, and receives LPG in liquid form from the tank. It reduces pressure to a controlled working level. It also incorporates measurement of the LPG temperature and pressure, allowing the LPG computer to modify fuelling characteristics. A Vaporiser lock-off safety valve is located on the inlet feed from the tank, and is electrically operated.

LPG INJECTORS
Modern petrol engines have one dedicated petrol injector for each cylinder. Gastech leave the original petrol injector intact and add an additional dedicated LPG injector for each cylinder, to ensure correct fuel distribution and maximum efficiency.

The LPG injectors are computer-controlled, allowing the appropriate amount of LPG to enter the engines inlet manifold at the correct time.

LPG COMPUTER (ECU)
The LPG computer (Electronic Control Unit) controls the LPG system, and is specifically developed to ensure maximum efficiency, and full OBD compatibility.
